| HOW DOES LECTRANAL® WORK? |
According to animal gene studies, it is possible to assume that Lectranal® specifically affects the imbalance of the immune system that triggers the over-production of substances that cause allergy symptoms. While the mechanism of antihistamine activity is to block the effects of already produced inflammatory mediators, Lectranal® acts a few steps earlier. Lectranal® balances the immune system and directs it towards a normal immune response. This results in a clinical presentation with very mild allergy symptoms, or no symptoms at all.

According to clinical data, Lectranal® is used in the treatment of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), but preliminary human data suggest that it is also useful in treating perennial allergic rhinitis and skin allergy conditions.
For optimal effect, Lectranal® should be taken continuously as a pre-treatment over a period of four weeks before the expected contact with the allergen, and during the entire allergy season, as well. The best results are achieved when Lectranal® is taken two times a day (in the morning and in the evening) half an hour before eating.
It is also possible to start the therapy with Lectranal® after the appearance of allergy symptoms. In this case, it would be necessary to take a double dosage until the symptoms disappear. Once the allergic reaction is under control, Lectranal® treatment should be continued with regular dosage.
Lectranal® must be taken during the entire allergy season.

A clinical trial confirmed that treatment of seasonal allergic rhinits with Lectranal® is safe. In the preclinical toxicity study there were no harmful effects connected with the taking of Lectranal®. Due to the lack of appropriate data, however, Lectranal® is not recommended for pregnant women, nursing women, or small children.

| WHAT HAS THE RESEARCH SHOWN? |
The clinical trial on Lectranal® demostrated that it is efficient and safe in treating seasonal allergic rhinitis. Compared to a placebo, Lectranal® caused significantly better improvement for several outcome measures. Preclinical research (Gene Chip and Real-time PCR) carried out on mouse spleen cells found that in vivo administered Lectranal® reduces the inflammatory reaction and that it affects the gene expression that is relevant for its development.
These results are further supported by an immunoglobuline assay in the serum of animals treated with Lectranal® and by intradermal testing, which proved that the animals that were given Lectranal® developed inflammatory reactions that were as much as four times milder.
